BLNDC & The Community

Our community building includes business development, job search and training initiatives that strengthen the local economy.

This section highlights:

Communities Served

We represent six local First Nations and the off-reserve communities here in the Lakes District.

Burns Lake Band, Cheslatta Carrier Nation, Nee Tahi Buhn Indian Band, Skin Tyee Band, Wet’suwet’en First Nation, Lake Babine Nation.

Student Venture Incentive Program (SVIP)

BLNDC has its own student business initiative program, and provides small equity contributions to students in grades 7 to 12, native and non-native, who have an interest in starting a summer business.

George D. Brown Memorial Endowment Busary

Aboriginal students pursuing business administration studies at the College of New Caledonia are eligible for an award of $1,000 for first year studies and $2,000 for second year studies.

Summer Students

Each year BLNDC hires one or more summer students to enable them to gain practical experience in a working business environment.

BLNDC Quarterly Newsletters

BLNDC publishes quarterly newsletters about our company, news, past and upcoming events, see our newsletters page for the downloadable pdf version. We also have our 25th Anniversary brochure available for viewing or downloading.

Graduate Awards Program

BLNDC encourages members of the First Nation communities it serves to graduate from recognized school programs at the secondary and post-secondary levels. In 2008 BLNDC established this awards program to recognize and encourage educational attainment for the students of these communities.
