Graduate Awards Program

Overview

BLNDC encourages members of the First Nation communities it serves to graduate from recognized school programs at the secondary and post-secondary levels. In 2008 BLNDC established this awards program to recognize and encourage educational attainment for the students of these communities.

Criteria
|
|
Applicant eligibility:
|
|
Any status Indian, registered member, student of one of BLNDC’s six first nations or any status Indian student registered as a member of another first nation, but resident within one of BLNDC’s six first nation communities having a parent who is a member of one of the six first nations is eligible for an award.
|
|
Type of attainment:
|
|
High School: BC Adult Graduation Diploma/Adult Dogwood (not leaving school certificate);
|
|
Post Secondary: one, two, three or four year certificate, diploma or degree;
|
|
Trades: red seal.
|
|
Award levels:
|
|
High School: $125 Certificate
|
|
Post Secondary: $200 Certificate; $250 Diploma; $500 Degree; $1,000 Masters/PhD
|
|
Trades: $500 red seal
|
|
Level of academic achievement: Pass
|
|
|
|
Application Process
|
|
The Education Coordinators from the six first nations are to supply to BLNDC a list of graduates during the period of July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009.
